Zion competes with area schools in interscholastic sports. Cross-country, volleyball, basketball, and track and field are engaged in on a competitive basis. Please note that every effort is made to provide activities for students. Based on enrollment numbers, we

Basketball
We have a 5th and 6th grade team for both boys and girls and we have a 7th and 8th grade team for both boys and girls. They both would have several practices a week and participate in 8 – 12 games. The 5th and 6th grade basketball season November-December and the 7th and 8th grade season is January -February. They also would play in a few tournaments throughout the year. Volleyball
The girls will have several practices a week and will participate in 10 – 12 games. They also will get to participate in a few different tournaments throughout the year including the end of the year tournament at Mayer Lutheran. Their season is October-November. |

Cross Country/Track and Field
Cross Country/Track and Field is available for grades 5th – 8th and for both boys and girls. The season is September-October. They will participate in 3 – 5 meets including a state meet and have a chance to qualify for nationals. |

Flag Football
Flag Football is available for boys in grades 5th–8th. The season runs during September and October. Players take part in practices and games with other area schools, building skills, teamwork, and school spirit while learning the fundamentals of the game. |
Track and Field
Track & Field Day is for students in grades 5th–8th and is hosted by Mayer Lutheran High School in early May. Students participate in a variety of track and field events, building athletic skills, teamwork, and school spirit while enjoying a day of friendly competition with other area schools.

Play Day
Play Day is a long-standing tradition held on the last Wednesday of the school year. Students from Zion, St. John’s (NYA), and Emanuel (Hamburg) come together for a day of friendly competition and fellowship. Events include a variety of races, jumps, dodgeball, and softball skill contests. Hosting rotates among the participating schools, continuing a tradition of fun, teamwork, and school spirit that has been celebrated for generations. |
